So...a little more about me?
Born in Surrey, my family moved to the Midlands...
Here I have spent most of my life living and working in Nottinghamshire. I am married with two young children and now live and work near the beautiful market town of Newark-On-Trent. Other than my family, of course, my passions in life are art & design and music.
I was born into a musical family, with my father being a composer/conductor who had international success with his own 'Sound Of Strings' Double Orchestra formed in 1966.
I never pursued a career in music, but having been surprised by gaining almost full marks in the 'Bentley' test at school, I actually dropped music from my chosen subjects to study, but immediately took up playing the guitar and set about teaching myself by ear. Some years later, I played lead guitar in a rock band with just a handful of gigs to our name, then I helped out by playing bass for another band before a career in design took up any spare time I had left. However, to this day I still play the guitar whenever I can and one day, I hope to enjoy playing in a band again!
Art & design has always been a passion of mine and at school I won Eisteddford awards for my drawing skills at an early age. From my early teens, I always knew I wanted a career in graphic design...something about typefaces intrigued me and I seemed to have a natural eye for layout and drawing in particular. Gaining A levels and Diplomas in art/art history and graphic design, this has led to a career spanning 30 years in advertising & marketing, promotional design and artwork for games design.
I decided the time was right to start working as a freelance graphic artist in 2008. Ink-Corporated is my business trading name and I offer all my years of design experience to businesses of any size across the UK.
More recently I have been getting reacquainted with my pencil drawing skills to offer pet/people portraits on a commissioned basis, only a limited number of which I have time to produce each year, but ultimately bringing joy to all those who have received my pencil work to date.
I feel so fortunate to have been in a position to work with a very talented author, producing not one but eight book covers now, including chapter icon illustration and family trees. I really hope this generates more interest from other self publishing authors who need a quality design and illustration service but at an affordable price. 2014 also saw the start of successfully working off-site offering my creative/office skills in a holiday cover capacity, to ensure existing print deadlines were met for a local business. So once again, I hope to see this side of the creative service I offer becoming more popular.
Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me and I hope you enjoy viewing some of the creative work on my website.
